When disaster strikes, there’s no time to pack. Having a fully stocked emergency kit can help keep your family safe and stable until help arrives. The Salvation Army encourages every household to prepare now—because readiness brings peace of mind.
- Water: One gallon per person, per day (for at least three days)
- Clothing: Change of clothes and sturdy shoes per person
- Pet Supplies: Food, leash, carrier, ID tags, licenses
- Warmth: Blanket or sleeping bag for each person
- Medications: Prescription and nonprescription (pain relievers, antacids, etc.)
- Infant/Elderly/Disability Needs: Formula, diapers, wipes, special equipment
- Food: Several day supply of nonperishable items (Plan for the time it could take for local aid to reach you)
- Important Documents: Insurance policies, IDs, bank records (waterproof container or digital copies)
- Cash/Credit: For emergency expenses
- Light & Power: Flashlight with extra batteries, portable phone chargers, NOAA Weather Radio
- First Aid Kit
- Sanitation: Towelettes, garbage bags, soap, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes
- Comfort Items: Books, games or puzzles for children
- Tools: Can opener, basic hand tools, fire extinguisher, whistle, dust masks, plastic sheeting and duct tape

- Keep canned and boxed food in cool, dry places
- Replace expired items regularly
- Review and update your kit yearly based on your family’s needs
